Meet Jasmine. we first met in an art class and i instantly fell in love with her style. her look is a mixture of preppy, sporty and art student. i chatted with jasmine to learn a little about her + her style inspirations.
Bilphena: Tell me a little about yourself.
Jasmine Williams: My name is Jasmine Williams. I’m a 20 year old photography major from PG County. I've also been freelance modeling going on 3 years now. But I’ve always been a lover of all arts and a fashion fanatic. My love for fashion really started when I started school. From Pre-K to senior year of highschool I wore uniforms. Which meant no freedom for creativity in how you present yourself. YOU.MUST.WEAR.THIS. Monday to Friday and I obviously detested it. So any picture day, after school event, especially the weekend I wore the outfits that I would want to wear during the week. So when college came along, I was ecstatic because now I could wear whatever I want when I wanted! In addition to that, I could share my outfits with a larger and more accepting crowd of people.
Bilphena: What influences your style?
Jasmine Williams: Everyone around me. From the familiar: my friends and random people walking the streets, to the unfamiliar like images in editorial magazines, runway shows across the world andstylists I watch on YouTube + follow on Instagram. There are so many diverse trends all over the world that don’t even influence this side of the world and I’m immensely taken by them. I take pieces and incorporate them into how I dress.
Bilphena: What is your process when picking out an outfit?
Jasmine Williams: I go through the circumstances. Where am I going? Do I want to be comfortable? After those two question I go and get inspired. I pull out my phone. I see what my favorite stylists or models are wearing to their events and what people are wearing all over the world on my Lookbook app. And that’s not just clothes. we're talking jewelry, hair and make-up (sometimes) Unfortunately I’m extremely indecisive, this process could take hours if I have the time. However, I don't have hours to do this process so it's usually done in 20 to 30 minutes [laughs] I’m slightly embarrassed about how long it takes me to get ready but there’s a old saying that states “Good things take time”
Bilphena: How would you describe your style using 3 words?
